The gw2 guardian explained
The gw2 guardian is probably one of the most underrated professions of the game. With the ability to be both a very aggressive and offensive build through to a defensive team player, all in one.
The gw2 guardian has three main hand weapons in the Mace, Scepter and Sword. Three off hand weaopons in the Shield, Torch and Focus. Three two handed weapons in the Hammer, Greatsword and Staff, and finally two aquatic weapons the Spear and Trident.
In guild wars 2 weapons give skills. So a different weapons choice yeilds a different skill choice. Go to the skills pages for more info.
As a soldier type profession the gw2 guardian wears Heavy armour.
The guardian’s specific attribute is willpower which decreases the recharge of it’s virtues. Willpower is increased by trait line virtues. Attributes are special characteristics which improve your guardian’s combat effectiveness.
Attributes can be broken down into two areas: Primary Attributes and Secondary Attributes.
Primary guardian Attributes
All types of professions have primary attributes, two are offensive attributes while the other two are defensive attributes. Primary attributes are automatically gained as you level. There are four primary attributes:
- Power - increases attack.
- Precision - increases critical hit chance
- Toughness - increases armour
- Vitality - increases max health.
Secondary guardian Attributes
There are five secondary attributes, three offensive and two defensive. Secondary attributes do not level with you. They are leveled by either putting points into the trait line or from various equipment.
The secondary attributes are:
- Boon Duration: Improves boon duration applied by the character.
- Condition Damage: Improves condition damage.eg burning or poisen
- Condition Duration: Improves duration of conditions inflicted by the character
- Crtitical Damager: Improves the damage multiplier on critical strikes.
- Healing Power: Improves all outgoing heals – including self heals.
gw2 guardian Builds
A build is the choices you make to create your character. At the starts of the game you choose your race and profession.
Your choice of weopons and skills has a large impact on your build earlier on.
Primary attributes will increase as you level, and as you change equipment. At level 10 you can start putting points into secondary attributes.
If you want to mess around with a build to see how it feels, and what it can do. Head to the heart of the mists – the pvp area.
As mentioned before there a numorous ways to build your gw2 guardian. You can go for an offensive ‘jump in the fray’ two handed sword weilding maniac. Or you may choose the still offensive, but a little reserved, sword and shield combo.
You may love the distance of the two handed staff.
Then again you can alsways switch to the more defensive type mace and shield or scepter and torch.
